I love Human Design as a tool for self-discovery and self-expression
One of my favorite elements is the concept of “deconditioning” - the process of stripping away the layers that aren’t authentic to you.
It’s the hero’s journey we all have the opportunity to take when we choose to align with our own intuition and integrity above all else. The process of unlearning the strategies and coping mechanisms that have taken you to this place (your current location in time and space) but are actually no longer useful to your “highest alignment.1”
When I think of deconditioning- I always think about the Little Bear books - if you aren’t immediately familiar - the idea is this, Little Bear wants to go out in the snow and tries out so many different iterations of coats and pants but then ultimately remembers that he’s a bear and he’s equipped with fur which is better than anything else he could possibly wear.
The process of deconditioning is discovering you already have been equipped for your mission as you are.
You can consider conditioning a disruption and distortion of your natural vibration
sometimes I like to channel my Human Design compatriots who write VERY SERIOUSLY about HD: CONDITIONING IS INTERFERENCE ON YOUR INDIVIDUAL FREQUENCY.
Conditioning is any external force that CAN move you to act (operate) out of your not-self.
Conditioning happens to all of us - I haven't met anyone who hasn’t dealt with this because it is coming from all angles; the sky, our culture, our friends, our family - everything has the capability to condition.
For anyone who’s done inner child work or worked with a therapist, this is nothing new - it’s understood that from 0-7 we subconsciously create our POV from our systems around us, internalizing the voices of our parents, caregivers, peers, teachers, media.
As we grow up, most of us aren’t aware that we've been “programmed” by our environment and that subsequently our perspective is limited.
Having these limitations pointed out feels personal and embarrassing which is why this work is only tackled by the very brave. To basically rewire your system mid-flight is a wild ask.

WHO WANTS TO ADMIT THAT THEY ARE PLAYING OUT SOMEONE ELSE’S IDEAS?

CONDITIONING CAN TAKE HOLD OVER YOU IN MANY WAYS
FOR EXAMPLE THINGS LIKE THIS:
FEELING LIKE YOU’RE ACTING OUT A SCRIPT (guess I’ll climb the ole ladder)
ACTING ON SHOULDS (should-ing yourself as they say)
BOWING TO PRESSURE FROM OTHERS (overriding your own intuition)
If you are taking the DIY approach to Human Design, studying your open and undefined centers is really helpful in seeing where you are particularly vulnerable to outside noise.
IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT OR MY FAULT OR THEIR FAULT. IT’S JUST HOW IT GOES. AND THE GOOD NEWS, WE CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
you can rewire your whole system - emdr, NLP, Tapping… affirmations… there’s a lot of tools that can help you build up your capacity to firmly anchor yourself in your own energy and stop using the societal programming scripts
while the journey is individual, you don’t have to do alone, there’s plenty of people who are equipped to guide you and I love working with my teachers (just as a therapist needs a therapist, I work with my own teachers who help me be my best for my clients)
Yes, it is a bit scary to peek into the ole operating system because gasp what will we find? edvard munch’s the scream? (possible)
but the pay off is huge - you get the peace and satisfaction of living in integrity with yourself
Human Design is meant to help you be an individual
there’s a lot of pressure on you to pick from ready-made choices - but this doesn’t have to be the case
homogenization is another big word in the HD terminology world. homogenization really just means indoctrination into the mainstream. Ra was big on school being one of those major forces to making people the same (and as a former teacher I can’t say that I disagree with that take…)
We are taught both consciously and unconsciously to fit in and submit to social pressures - we are rewarded externally and motivated externally to keep submitting to the system. The spanner in the works however is that this external pressure causes internal friction.
We are often coerced and pressured to override our desires and natural instincts in order to maintain a false sense of harmony.
When we cross ourselves and sacrifice our own needs, it dampens the spirit. As the spirit fades, we begin to see symptoms show up physically in the body, literal messages from the body asking to be heard. If you need help hearing those messages and centering yourself in your body (CRITICAL ELEMENT TO THE DECONDITIONING PROCESS) I recommend somatic work - I’m really into The Workout Witch courses - start with the first one (if you need a discount - here you go)2
We can be so myopic sometimes - treating the symptoms endlessly and failing to see the root cause is our own betrayal of self. This is why I read human design. We deserve to take our own needs seriously. The deconditioning process allows you to recenter yourself in your own life.
Centering your needs and tending to what lights your fires strengthens your energetic frequency. That strong, coherent frequency is beautiful + deeply alluring, it is what really attracts us to one another. We are drawn to those who are secure and anchored in their truth.
Surrendering to our true nature means letting go of those norms and societal expectations- anchoring in our own hearts means letting go of what others think (or letting go of what you think others think) and following your own brand of intuition - easier said than done, this is the life work.
MOST OF THE TIME, IT’S OUR PROJECTIONS OF WHAT *We Think* others think of us that’s stopping us from fully expressing
THE MORE YOU CAN LISTEN TO YOUR OWN AUTHORITY THE MORE YOU WON’T GIVE A HOOT ABOUT OTHER’S JUDGEMENT.
WE’RE ALL LITTLE PUZZLES.
EACH DAY WE FIND ANOTHER PIECE. IT CAN BE A JOYOUS PROJECT OR WE CAN BE TOTALLY OVERWHELMED. I’ve tried both!
